类似创业型开源软件管理公司Cloudera将Apache Hadoop技术商业化，10gen提供的是NoSQL产品平台MongoDB的商业版本。MongoDB是一个高性能的面向文件的开源数据存储项目。

10gen以为企业扩容数据库以实现大量数据存储和处理为目标。10gen由广告技术公司DoubleClick创始人兼CTO Dwight Merriman和前DoubleClick工程师、购物搜索ShopWiki创始人兼CTO Eliot Horowitz共同创立。

Merriman说，许多公司目前都在使用甲骨文系统处理大量的数据，但若遇到需要扩容的情况，就不得不再购买更多的服务器。这样不仅花费高昂而且存在风险。

目前，10gen正经历高速发展阶段，其客户包括移动通讯设备制造商Ericsson、美国媒体集团维亚康姆公司(Viacom)以及西班牙电信(Telefonica)等多家全球知名企业。

本轮融资将用于聘请员工和公司的全球性扩张。
