    来自国外媒体消息,日前,Canonical公司首席执行官Mark Shuttleworth在一封电子邮件中向Ubuntu开发人员透露,今年10月份将要推出的新一代产品Ubuntu 9.10的一个重要功能就是它将支持云计算技术。

  绰号Karmic Koala的服务器版本Ubuntu 9.10将支持亚马逊网络服务公司运营的EC2云计算服务,以及一整套的标准亚马逊机器影像(AMIS),从而能够使用类似的配置方便运行在云中的应用互相协作。

    亚马逊的EC2还支持Windows Server 2003中,OpenSolaris和其它一些Linux发行版,其中包括Red Hat Enterprise Linux和Oracle Enterprise Linux。

  微软也打算在今年晚些时候推出自己的云计算服务Azure。不过,Ubuntu 9.10宣布支持EC2对于想要涉足云计算领域的微软带来了不小的压力。

  除了支持Amazon EC2之外, Kosmic Koala还新增了开源工具Eucalyptus,Eucalyptus能够帮助企业在自己的数据中心中自行创建EC2云计算服务。此外,Ubuntu 9.10还将提供更好的数据中心能源消耗管理功能,从而使服务器实例能够在没有工作可干的时候自动进入睡眠状态,而在工作量增加时又能迅速进行恢复和调整,实现了根据需要动态改变资源设施。

  按照管理,Canonical每年发布两个Ubuntu更新,都以动物昵称进行命名,发布时间为每年的4月和10月。绰号为“无畏北山羊(Intrepid Ibex)”的Ubuntu 8.10发布于2008年10月,主要侧重于简化网络连接配置和改善用户界面,特别是针对netbooks。而即将在四月份发布的Ubuntu 9.04(代号为Jaunty Jackalope)的目标是将上网本的系统启动时间缩短到25秒,并且要让用户觉得桌面应用和Web托管应用在速度和响应时间方面没有什么区别。

  Koala也会在桌面方面进行了创新:在上网本上的启动速度甚至比Jaunty还要快,同时系统启动和登录屏幕更具吸引力。此外,Ubuntu还将专门推出一款针对上网本设计的版本,它能够安装在范围更加广泛的硬件设备上,并且其图形用户界面很适合小屏幕。
