News on May 17, according to China Unicom’s official public account, recently, China Unicom Group organized China Unicom Research Institute, China Communications Design Institute and other units to jointly tackle key issues for intelligent computing/supercomputing business access and interconnection carrying needs. The current network has completed the world's first wide-area high-throughput lossless transmission verification of massive data with an actual transmission distance of over 3,000 kilometers.

It is reported that in intelligent computing and supercomputing business scenarios, the timeliness of transmission of terabyte-level massive data through traditional 100M or Gigabit bandwidth cannot meet the requirements, and the cost of transmission through higher-speed dedicated lines is too high.

Therefore, efficient and lossless transmission of massive data has always been a difficult problem in the industry.

Based on China Unicom’s nationwide backbone all-optical ROADM network and 169 backbone Internet, Shanghai intelligent computing business training data is imported into the Ningxia Zhongwei intelligent computing training cluster. In the scenario of "digitizing the east and counting the west", we carried out verification of network innovation capabilities such as "IPv6+", new transport layer protocols, long-distance RDMA lossless transmission, end-network coordinated transmission, etc. The actual transmission line length exceeded 3,000 kilometers, and the pilot set multiple industry records:

For the first time, task-based transmission of 3,000 kilometers of massive data based on IP bearer network has been achieved, and the transmission distance is 30% higher than the existing record.

For the first time, the multi-location collaborative transmission capability based on SRv6 (IPv6-based segment routing) technology has been realized.

For the first time, live network verification of 3,000-kilometer long-distance RDMA traffic transmission based on OTN lossless flow control and end-network collaborative congestion control was achieved, and the port bandwidth utilization increased from 20% to more than 90%.

Tang Xiongyan, vice president and chief scientist of China Unicom Research Institute, said, “The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence has brought about huge demand for efficient transmission of massive data. In the past, we relied on Manually transporting hard drives to move data has low efficiency and high time costs. Through the task-based data transmission capability based on the innovation of IP + optical network technology, TB-level massive data can be delivered in about 1 minute, which is a good solution to the problem of low-bandwidth transmission data. The problem is that we cannot afford to wait, and the cost of high-bandwidth dedicated lines is too high.”
