IGN acquires Gamer Network, taking ownership of Eurogamer and other media

DoNews reported on May 22 that IGN Entertainment announced on the 21st local time that it would acquire Gamer Network from pop culture event producer ReedPop for an undisclosed amount. Gamer Network operates a number of well-known game media, including Eurogamer, Gamesindustry.biz, Rock Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247 and board game media Dicebreaker.

Through this acquisition, IGN also acquired part of the equity in digital foundry and other media.

Gamesindustry.biz said in a report that IGN initiated a round of layoffs following the completion of the acquisition. Several key editors were laid off, including Gamesindustry.biz editor-in-chief Brendan Sinclair.
