When it comes to life simulation games, there is much more than the record-smashing The Sims or the virtual world of Second Life. On March 21, 2023, Paradox Interactive published the announcement trailer for Life by You, a title described as a moddable life-sim that was supposed to enter Early Access on September 12 on both Epic and Steam. Sadly, that didn't happen. The Early Access release date was first moved to March 5, and then to June 4. Unfortunately, Paradox Interactive announced the cancelation of the game two days ago and closed down Paradox Tectonic yesterday.
According to Paradox Interactive's Deputy CEO, Mattias Lilja, the decision to discontinue this project "was an incredibly difficult call to make and is a clear failure on Paradox’s part to meet both our own and the community's expectations." He also added that the team behind this project ended up focusing on details and missing the bigger picture with each delay they made. Lilja said that "when we come to a point where we believe that more time will not get us close enough to a version we would be satisfied with, then we believe it is better to stop" and promised that Paradox Interactive's teams will continue to do their best to come up with fun games that are also interesting and challenging.
With roots dating all the way back to 1975, Swedish company Paradox Interactive is known for hit series such as Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron, and Crusader Kings. Speaking of the last one, Crusader Kings 3: Console Edition - PlayStation 5can be currently acquired via Amazon for $49.99. However, those who think that's too much can get the Xbox Series X version, which is currently carrying a price tag of $22.99.
