Nintendo confirms strategy to fight Switch 2 scalpers

During last year's Nintendo shareholder meeting, the leaders of the Japanese company indicated they had a plan on how to prevent people from making a quick buck by snatching up Nintendo's upcoming handheld console in large quantities and then selling it on to less fortunate customers at a hard-to-swallow premium. This year, during аn event of a very similar nature, they were once again asked what their way of fighting Switch 2 scalpers would look like.

The answer that Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa came up with is essentially the same one that we heard in 2023. The company intends to produce enough next-gen consoles to meet demand. In other words, Nintendo wants to make sure that people simply won't need to turn to eBay or a similar platform to buy the new Switch — anyone should be able to just go to the nearest electronics store and buy the console, or order it online.

Increasing the production rates apparently isn't the only measure that Nintendo intends to take but Furukawa did not disclose any details on that.

When talking about the semiconductor shortage that impacted many companies in recent years, Furukawa assured that this issue is gone and nothing stands in the way of Nintendo doing business as usual.

In May 2024, Nintendo confirmed plans to announce its next console "this fiscal year," meaning the successor to the Switch will be unveiled by the end of March 2025 at the latest.
