On July 8, Bitfarms announced the appointment of Ben Gagnon as CEO, effective immediately. The decision follows a rigorous three-month executive search
Bitfarms (NASDAQ:BITF) announced on Friday the appointment of Ben Gagnon as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.
The decision comes after a three-month executive search to replace former CEO Geoff Morphy. Gagnon, who has been with Bitfarms for five years, will now lead the company's next phase of growth and expansion.
Gagnon, who previously served as Chief Mining Officer at Bitfarms, played a key role in shaping and executing the company's Bitcoin mining strategy and operations. He was also heavily involved in crafting Bitfarms' transformative growth strategy for 2024, which includes achieving a hash rate guidance of 21 EH/s by year-end.
According to the press release, Gagnon, as CEO, will also oversee the expansion and diversification of Bitfarms into new businesses, including energy generation, heat recycling, energy trading, and HPC (high-performance computing) for AI (artificial intelligence).
The appointment is also expected to enhance Bitfarms' capital deployment and expansion into new synergistic growth opportunities.
“Ben Gagnon is the perfect fit for the role, as we see it,” said analysts at H.C. Wainwright, as they reiterated their ‘Buy’ rating on BITF's stock.
The market reacted positively to the announcement, with Bitfarms shares (BITF) trading marginally higher, outpacing Bitcoin, which saw a 1.8% decline on the same day.
Today, BITF is trading at $2.55 a share, down 4.3%.
Analysts at H.C. Wainwright expressed confidence that Gagnon's appointment will remove a significant overhang on the stock, aligning with Bitfarms' future growth prospects.
Gagnon joined Bitfarms in 2019 as Director of Business Development and advanced through the ranks, becoming Director of Mining Operations in 2020 and Chief Mining Officer in 2021. Throughout his career at Bitfarms, he has gained extensive experience in mining strategy, growth initiatives, and miner portfolio management.
Before joining Bitfarms, Gagnon founded and operated two Bitcoin mining companies, serving in roles such as CEO, Chief Mining Officer, and CTO.
He holds an M.Sc. in Internet Computing from Hong Kong University and a B.Sc. in Economic Consulting and International Business from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business.
H.C. Wainwright maintained its Buy rating with a $4 price target, which is based on a 6.0x EV/Revenue multiple against a $221.5 million 2024 revenue estimate. The firm's valuation highlights Bitfarms' competitive positioning within the BTC mining sector.
