When building AI applications, prompt quality has a significant impact on the results. However, producing high-quality prompts is challenging and requires researchers to have an in-depth understanding of application requirements and expertise in large-scale language models. To speed up development and improve results, AI startup Anthropic has streamlined this process to make it easier for users to create high-quality prompts.

Specifically, the researchers added new functions to the Anthropic Console to generate, test and evaluate prompts.

Anthropic prompt engineer Alex Albert said: This is the result of a lot of work they have put in over the past few weeks, and now Claude is doing very well in prompt engineering.

Leave the difficult prompt to Claude

In Claude, writing a good prompt is as easy as describing the task. The console provides a built-in prompt generator, powered by Claude 3.5 Sonnet, allowing users to describe tasks and have Claude generate high-quality prompts.

Generate prompt. First click Generate Prompt to enter the prompt generation interface:

Then enter the task description, Claude 3.5 Sonnet will convert the task description into a high-quality prompt. For example, "Write a prompt for reviewing inbound messages...", just click to generate the prompt.

Generate test data. If the user has a prompt, some test cases may be needed to run it. Claude can generate those test cases.

Users can modify test cases as needed and run all test cases with one click. They can also view and adjust Claude's understanding of each variable's generation requirements to achieve more fine-grained control over Claude's generated test cases.

These features make optimizing prompt easy, as users can create new versions of prompt and rerun test suites to quickly iterate and improve results.

Additionally, Anthropic rated the quality of Claude's responses on a 5-point scale.

Evaluate the model. If the user is satisfied with the prompt, they can later run it against various test cases at once in the Assessment tab. Users can import test data from CSV or directly use Claude to generate synthetic test data for users.

Compare. Users can also test multiple prompts against each other in a test case and rate better responses to track which prompt performs best.

AI blogger @elvis said: Anthropic Console is an excellent piece of research that can save a lot of time by automating the process of designing and optimizing prompts. While the generated prompts may not be perfect, they give users a starting point for rapid iteration. Additionally, the ability to generate test cases is helpful since developers may not have data to test against.
