Agrotoken, Tanssi score partnership to leverage Polkadot (DOT) for agriculture finances in South America

blockchain infrastructure platform Tanssi has announced a long-term strategic partnership with Agrotoken, a global tokenization platform for agricultural commodities, to jointly develop novel solutions for agriculture businesses in South America.

Together, the two companies will combine Agrotoken's expertise in agriculture and tokenization with Tanssi's multi-purpose appchain protocol to create tailored solutions for the unique needs of the South American agriculture market.

Initially, the partnership will focus on launching Agrotoken's products in Brazil and Argentina, two of the largest agriculture markets in the region. Following the successful launch in these markets, the two companies plan to expand Agrotoken's operations to other agriculture powerhouses in South America.

One of the key use cases that will be enabled by this partnership is the development of a blockchain-based solution for collateralizing loans with tokenized grains. This process typically involves complex processes for tracking grain values, loan terms, ownership transfers and repayment schedules, which a general-purpose blockchain cannot easily handle.

However, by utilizing Tanssi's dedicated appchain technology, Agrotoken will be able to efficiently digitize commodities and manage their lifecycle on-chain. This capability will open up new possibilities for agriculture businesses to access financing and tokenize their assets.

Commenting on the partnership, Ariel Scaliter, CTO and co-founder of Agrotoken, expressed his excitement about the opportunities this collaboration will unlock for his team and the tokenization segment as a whole,

“We are very excited to start working with Tanssi because of their scalable infrastructure built with Polkadot and its simplicity in implementation. This collaboration will allow us to explore natural resource tokenization with greater speed and flexibility.”

As a major player in the agricultural sector, Agribusiness forms a significant part of the GDP in key markets where Agrotoken operates, including Brazil (22%), Argentina (6.6%) and the United States (5.5%). Due to the size and complexity of the market, Agrotoken requires a robust, reliable and scalable infrastructure, characteristics that are inherent to appchains, Tanssi's main business projects.

Since its launch, Agrotoken has been pioneering critical solutions for the agriculture business and tokenization segments, hitting a number of amazing tech progress and business development milestones along the way.

The platform has already hit the ground running, having tokenized $70 million deals in cereals, which equates to 230,000 tons of soybeans, corn and wheat. As this activity scales, Tanssi's support will power Agrotoken's growth while maintaining optimum performance.

To enable Agrotoken's rapid expansion, Tanssi will provide essential infrastructure tools as a service, enabling the launch of its appchain with just a few clicks. Additionally, Tanssi will support block production along with key integrations such as oracles and wallets.

This collaboration also marks the first agrobusiness use case to be developed within the Tanssi ecosystem, which operates on Polkadot’s Substrate, a battle-tested framework for decentralized applications and interconnected sub-blockchains.
