Nottinghamshire's Ben Duckett has enjoyed a magnificent Vitality Blast campaign

Nottinghamshire batter Tom Hose is closing in on last year's Vitality Blast tally after notching another half-century in the competition.

The 29-year-old has now scored 290 runs in the tournament, putting him top of the Rapids' run-scoring charts.

Only Mitch Santner scored more for Notts last year, notching 304 runs at an average of 38.

Hose's success has not been limited to the Blast, either.

He has also shown some strong form in the County Championship, notching half-centuries against Surrey and in a victory over Durham.

Reflecting on his evolution in the game, Hose said: "I was probably a little guilty myself of searching towards the front end of the competition, trying to be there at different times in innings.

"That naturally took away from what I'm good at - and that is putting pressure back on bowlers, no matter what point of the innings.

"It is good learning for me and I just got back to the basics.

"It is trying to put a real emphasis on that first five-10 balls, hitting good strong shots and giving myself a chance, and then explode from there, I guess.

"That is what I kind of base my T20 format around."

The Rapids will conclude their Blast campaign against Derbyshire Falcons on Thursday (July 18).

Reflecting on last year's run-in, Hose said: "Last year when we were playing well we got over the line in games that we haven't necessarily done this year.

"We haven't played any bad cricket, apart from maybe the first game against Yorkshire, overall we've been there and thereabouts, and just lost clinical moments in games."
