Kenya Power has clarified that tenants will be responsible for updating prepaid token metres in rental houses.

This comes after the Kenya Power and Lighting Company began an update exercise for all prepaid token metres.

In a customer update on the company's social media platforms, KPLC clarified that tenants will be responsible for updating token metres.

Many Kenyans, particularly in urban areas, live in rental houses hence the need for clarification that the tenants who purchase tokens will receive update codes.

Earlier on TUKO.co.ke, Kenya Power advised customers to ensure that they have loaded all other tokens they had purchased in the past before updating their token metres.

Otherwise, the tokens will be rendered invalid after the token metre update. The update process will not affect tokens already loaded into the metres.

Kenya Power explained that the process of updating the token metres is taking place in phases to ensure an orderly and efficient update process for all customers.

This means that all the token metres have been scheduled for updates in different phases, and once a phase reaches the metres scheduled for that phase, it will receive a reset code and an update code via SMS when purchasing tokens.
