Top crypto firms in the US are reportedly sending delegations to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week.
Top crypto firms are reportedly sending delegations to both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions this year in a bid to push for a pro-crypto legislative and regulatory agenda.
Officials from Coinbase, Ripple and the venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz plan to attend the Republican convention in Milwaukee this week, Politico reports, citing people familiar with the matter.
The same companies also plan to send representatives to the Democratic convention in Chicago next month, the report adds.
Several crypto firms showed up at the 2020 Republican convention, including Coinbase, Ripple and BlockFi. Coinbase also attended the Democratic convention that year.
Crypto has become a surprisingly hot-button issue in politics, especially as the 2024 presidential campaign heats up.
The Republican Party and its presumptive nominee Donald Trump have courted the digital asset vote. Earlier this month, the Republican National Committee released a new party platform that promised to support crypto and oppose the creation of a central bank digital currency (CBDC).
Trump, who survived an assassination attempt over the weekend, has positioned himself as the crypto-friendly candidate despite previously painting digital assets as “a disaster waiting to happen.”
His 2024 presidential campaign has also started accepting crypto donations, receiving $2 million worth of Bitcoin (BTC) from Gemini crypto exchange co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss in June.
In May, a jury found Trump guilty on 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
