In a team sport like cricket, individual milestones are mostly undervalued when they come at the expense of the team's success and overall strategy.
Sam Curran smashed his maiden T20 century during Surrey's Vitality Blast victory over Kent on Friday.
The left-hander struck 101 not out from 58 balls to help Surrey chase down Kent's 184-6 with four balls to spare at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.
Curran's innings included 10 fours and four sixes, with the England all-rounder hitting the winning runs with a huge maximum over long-on off James Fuller.
It was a brilliant knock from Curran, who showed great power and timing throughout his innings.
He was particularly severe on anything short, pulling Fuller for four fours and a six in the space of seven balls.
Curran also showed good game awareness, running hard between the wickets and taking singles when he needed them.
He was dropped on 89 by Kent fielder Jack Leaning, but Curran made sure he took full advantage of the reprieve.
Curran's century was the third by a Surrey batter in this season's Vitality Blast, following fifties from Will Jacks and Jason Roy.
It was also the highest individual score in the competition this season, beating the 98 not out scored by Somerset's Tom Banton against Gloucestershire on May 27.
Curran's knock helped Surrey to a fourth win in five Vitality Blast matches this season, moving them top of the South Group standings.
