Winklevoss twins donate $1 million worth of Bitcoin to Donald Trump\'s 2024 presidential campaign
Gemini crypto exchange co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss are continuing their donation spree to Republican candidates.
Gemini crypto exchange co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss have each donated $500,000 in Bitcoin (BTC) to John Deaton, an attorney and pro-crypto Senate candidate looking to unseat Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).
The Winklevoss twins announced their donations in a thread on the social media platform X, where they expressed their support for Deaton’s campaign and highlighted Senator Warren’s opposition to the digital assets industry.
“John Deaton is running for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts to fight for crypto against the tyranny of Elizabeth Warren,” wrote Tyler and Cameron.
“We're each kicking in $500k of BTC to help get him elected. Let's show the politicians that we won't stand for their bullshit any longer.”
In a separate post, Tyler elaborated on Senator Warren’s alleged hostility towards the crypto industry, accusing her of using her influence to direct government agencies against digital assets.
“Elizabeth Warren is the single greatest threat to the digital assets industry,” wrote Tyler.
“She has weaponized the government against crypto at every turn.”
According to Tyler, at Senator Warren’s direction, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has conducted non-stop investigations and brought a multitude of bad faith enforcement actions against good actors in the crypto industry.
In parallel, he alleges, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation initiated Operation Choke Point 2.0 - an ongoing coordinated effort to pressure banks not to bank legal crypto companies.
“Elizabeth Warren is the mastermind of these illegitimate initiatives and these are her lieutenants and foot soldiers that carry out her orders,” added Tyler.
The Winklevoss twins have been vocal supporters of crypto-friendly candidates and initiatives in the past.
In June, the billionaire twins sent $1 million in Bitcoin donations to Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
At the time, they announced their donation by posting a photo of themselves meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
In the caption, they stated that they were donating to Trump because of his pro-crypto stances and because they believed the Biden Administration was attempting to undermine digital assets.
“We’re donating $1m each to Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign,” wrote the Winklevoss twins.
“He was the best president on crypto and Biden / Gary Gensler / Elizabeth Warren / Jay Clayton are the worst. Trump kept saying ‘Bitcoin, cryptocurrency. Nobody even knows what it is.’ IRS agents knocking on doors? Not on his watch!”
