A COIN and banknote collector has revealed a rare $100 bill serial number that makes it worth over 50 times its face value.

Most of us don’t look twice at the dollar bills we get in our change.

But those who take the time to inspect their bills might be lucky enough to find the item collectors are looking for.

Coin and currency collectors are looking for more than just old bills. They're willing to pay a pretty penny for dollars with unique features.

Eric Miller (@thecoinchannel) is an expert on rare coins and bills and recently spotted a key feature on a $100 bill that makes it very valuable.

On TikTok, he shared a video sent in by a viewer of a pristine $100 bill from 1990 in a plastic envelope.

“I get surprised almost every day with the things people find,” he said in the video.

While the bill was in good condition, the critical thing that drove up the price was the serial number.

The number was all fours, which is called a solid serial number.

Miller said it is a rare occurrence, and being on a $100 bill makes it even more valuable.

The bill alone would be worth about $2,000, but if it were certified, it would increase to $5,520.

Miller suggested getting the bill certified and graded by the Professional Coin Grading Society.

The company offers sellers an easy way to mail their coins and bills for a small fee to be graded and certified.

Solid serial numbers can happen on any bill denomination.

In another video, Miller examined a bill dubbed "the devil's $20."

The serial number was all sixes, representing what some call "the number of the beast."

Another $20 bill with a serial number of all five sold for $2,350 at auction, and an ungraded one sold for $1,375.

“People think I’m crazy when I look at the numbers on every bill I get; one day, I’ll be able to show them I’m not,” commented one viewer on the video.

"These are collected by so many people," Miller replied.

Solid serial numbers appear on nearly one out of every 11 million bills printed and are usually worth upwards of $500, according to The Penny Hoarder.

Star symbols on bills also make them valuable, with one note selling for $30,000.

There is also a penny worth $26,000 that has a missing letter.
