Operating as an English soccer team, Real Bedford is striving to reach the English Premier League. In line with this goal, the team has made several notable announcements, including the addition of Bitcoin to its treasury.
The team's Chairman Peter McCormack took to Twitter to announce the latest development.
"Real Bedford has acquired 66.9 BTC for $4,500,420.69 @ avg price of ~$67,220 per #bitcoin. As of today, @realbedford HODLs 82.7 $BTC acquired for ~$5.3m @ avg price of ~$64,925 per bitcoin," McCormack's tweet reads.
McCormack further elaborated on the team's Bitcoin holdings, revealing that 15.8 BTC is allocated for "football matters," while the remaining amount is held in the team's treasury to support "the club's long-term ambitions."
The announcement also drew a response from MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, who is renowned for purchasing Bitcoin with the software company's excess cash. Saylor has become one of the largest Bitcoin holders among public companies.
Benzinga highlighted in a recent report that Saylor shared a post showcasing Bitcoin's outperformance compared to other asset classes, including the S&P 500, gold, Nasdaq, silver and bonds from the date MicroStrategy purchased Bitcoin through July 19, 2024.
"Football still doesn't understand this," McCormack wrote in his tweet, attaching Saylor's chart.
Previously, Benzinga reported that Saylor took to Twitter to highlight another interesting comparison, showing MicroStrategy shares outperforming Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) since the company started buying Bitcoin.
"To outperform $NVDA – get on the #Bitcoin Standard," Saylor's tweet reads, displaying a chart comparing the returns of MSTR, NVDA and several other widely followed technology stocks.
McCormack also pointed out that the 82.7 Bitcoin, which were purchased for $5.37 million, are currently valued at $5.57 million.
