Apple is lost! For the first time, local Chinese brands occupy all the top 5 smartphones in Q2
On July 26, Canalys, a world-renowned market research organization, recently released a report, revealing Apple’s latest developments in the Chinese smartphone market. The report shows that Apple failed to rank among China's top five smartphone vendors in the second quarter of this year due to fierce competition from local brands such as Huawei.
- Apple’s China market share dropped slightly to 14% in the second quarter from 15% in the first quarter, while this figure was 16% in the same period last year.
- At the same time last year, Apple was still the world's third largest smartphone supplier. However, this year its shipments have dropped to approximately 9.7 million units, and its ranking has slipped to sixth.
Canalys research analyst Lucas Zhong pointed out:
- This is the first time in history that domestic Chinese manufacturers have occupied all the top five positions for an entire quarter.
1. Chinese suppliers’ high-end product strategy
Chinese suppliers’ high-end product strategy and close cooperation with the local supply chain are beginning to show results in hardware and software functions.
