Ross Ulbricht Freedom Promise Renewed by Trump

Former President Donald Trump has announced that he will commute Ross Ulbricht's sentence if he wins a second term.
Speaking at the Bitcoin Conference 2024 in Nashville, Trump told his supporters that Ulbricht's case will be his priority if he is re-elected.
"Enough is enough!" Trump exclaimed. "I will commute Ross Ulbricht's sentence on the first day of my presidency."
Ulbricht has been imprisoned since 2013 after creating and running the darknet market site Silk Road. He was convicted of narcotics trafficking conspiracy, continuing a criminal enterprise, computer hacking conspiracy, and money laundering conspiracy.
Many members of the Bitcoin community have shown support for Ulbricht, who is serving a double life sentence plus 40 years without the possibility of parole.
"Today, I repeat my pledge to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht to a sentence of time served," Trump said in a tweet. "It's enough."
The announcement drew cheers from some conference attendees.
In response to Trump's first promise in May, Ulbricht thanked him for his support and said he hoped for a "second chance" at life.
"I am deeply grateful to President Trump for continuing to highlight my case and speak out against the injustices of the drug war and mass incarceration," Ulbricht said in a statement at the time.
"I have served over ten years in prison for nonviolent offenses, and I continue to hold out hope that one day I will be granted a second chance at life and be able to contribute positively to society."
Before the Bitcoin conference, David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, said any presidential candidates who want the crypto community's vote should commit to freeing Ulbricht.
"If Kamala Harris were onstage at the Bitcoin conference with Donald Trump tonight, she would announce that she will pardon Ross Ulbricht if elected," Bailey said in a statement.
"Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has already committed to pardoning him. The crowd would go wild, and Harris would gain massive support from crypto voters."
"But she's not there because the Democratic Party has abandoned an entire generation of voters who are now flocking to candidates like Trump, Elon Musk, and Kanye who at least understand the problems they face."
