Kaspa is based on proof of work and it implements the PHANTOM GHOSTDAG protocol. Unlike traditional blockchains, GHOSTDAG does not isolate blocks created in parallel, but instead allows them to coexist and orders them in a consensus manner. Our blockchain is actually a blockDAG; you can see GHOSTDAG in action in the live blockDAG visualizer. This generalization of the Nakamoto consensus allows safe operation while maintaining very high block rates (currently one block per second, targeting 10/second, dreaming of 100/second) and extremely small confirmation times controlled by Internet latency (See the chapter 6 paper for some initial benchmarks). The Kaspa implementation includes a lot of cool features and subprotocols, including querying the DAG topology for reachability, block data pruning (and a near-term plan for block header pruning), SPV proofs, and later subnet support, which will enable layer 2 resolution in the future. The plan is much easier.
