欧盟称 TikTok 已承诺永久撤出 Lite 奖励计划,以遵守《数字服务法》

European Commission Announcement: TikTok has committed to permanently withdrawing the EU version of the TikTok Lite rewards program

This site reported on August 5 that the European Commission announced today that TikTok has committed to permanently withdrawing the TikTok Lite rewards program from the EU market. The move is aimed at resolving issues raised in the European Commission’s formal proceedings on April 22 and ensuring compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA).

TikTok Commitment:

  1. Permanently withdrawing the TikTok Lite rewards program from the EU.
  2. No other plans to avoid withdrawal will be launched.

The European Commission emphasizes that any breach of commitments will be considered a breach of the DSA and may result in fines.

TikTok Lite Rewards Program:

TikTok Lite is designed for users who have less than 2GB of memory, limited data connection, or only 2G/3G network connection. It has a built-in "task and reward program" where users can complete designated tasks on the platform to earn in-app "currency".

EU’s previous concerns:

The EU previously stated that when France and Spain launched the reward mechanism, they “did not carefully assess in advance the risks it brought, especially the risks related to the addictive effect of the platform, nor did they take effective measures to risk mitigation measures”. The EU is particularly concerned about the platform's lack of effective age verification mechanisms and is currently investigating this.

European Commission requirements:

The EU requires TikTok to submit a risk assessment report before April 23, local time, and provide other necessary information before May 3. If TikTok fails to respond within the prescribed period, the European Commission can impose a fine of up to 1% of its total annual revenue or global turnover, and a periodic fine of up to 5% of its average daily revenue or global annual turnover.
