The MSI Raider GE68 HX is a gaming laptop that hardly bothers to conceal its exuberant gamer vibe. Although not without its fair share of flaws, this 16" laptop is a beast of a desktop replacement that boasts a UHD+ mini LED display along with powerful internals that refuse to compromise on MSI's gaming roots. Thanks to an ongoing sale on Amazon, the laptop can now be had for its lowest price ever.
Currently priced at 'just' $1,899, the MSI RaiderGE68 HX 14VGG is cheaper now on Amazon than any other platform by a substantial margin, as revealed by a swift check using price trackers. Further, Amazon provides free delivery along with easy returns, so buyers can take advantage of this deal without losing their sleep.
This specific version of the MSI Raider GE68 HX bears the '14VGG-247US' model name, and comes with the following list of specifications:
- Intel Core i9 14900HX 'Raptor Lake' CPU with 24-cores, 32 threads
- RTX 4070 Laptop GPU
- 2 TB NVMe SSD (user-upgradeable)
- 32 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM (user-upgradeable)
- 16" 3840x2400 120 Hz mini LED display (the Amazon listing's claim of 144 Hz is inaccurate)
- Decent port selection, with a mix of USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C ports, Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, two USB 3.2 Type-A ports, and an audio combo port.
In our review of the older Intel 13th gen-powered GE68 HX series, we tested out a bunch of different SKUs and were mostly pleased with their performance. As can be expected from the impressive specifications, the Raider GE68 HX is a strong performer, and the beefy chassis and cooling system allow for decent thermal performance even under sustained loads. However, the bottom panel of the laptop is notoriously tedious to remove, making SSD and RAM upgrades quite the pain. Battery life is surprisingly decent for a chunky gaming laptop (over 6 hours for the 13700HX, RTX 4070 model), however the fan noise is quite audible in anything apart from 'balanced' mode.
The display, on the other hand, is an absolute stunner - at least on paper. We tested out the FHD and QHD panels, and were satisfied with the QHD panel's performance, although the FHD panel was extremely disappointing. The UHD+ 120 Hz mini LED display of the model on offer should ideally take things up a notch, and the enhanced brightness and contrast paired with MSI's claimed 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut will likely make this an ideal choice for the 'creator by day, gamer by night' kind.
