Ford Mustang Mach-E covers 570 miles on a single charge, shattering EV range record

In the realm of electric vehicles (EVs), range anxiety has reigned supreme among the plethora of factors that obstruct potential EV owners from going electric. However, as efficiency improves, modern-era electric cars often feature total driving ranges which are more than enough to satiate anyone's requirements, especially for daily driving.

Take the Ford Mustang Mach-E for instance, the extended range version of which offers 379 miles of WLTP-certified range from its 88 kWh battery pack. This amount of range is more than enough, even for medium-long trips, and only a few specific use cases will require any more range than this. However, the folks over at UK-based, Bridgestone-owned Webfleet weren't happy with these numbers, and wanted to see how far they could take the Mach-E on a single charge - and also set a Guinness world record in the process.

They knew full well that their trip ahead would be perilous, to say the least, considering that the previous record was already set sky-high at 563 miles - almost 200 more than the Mach-E's WLTP range.

To be honest, the driving conditions that influence the range of an electric vehicle were extremely favorable during the whole trip. This included having people in charge of monitoring all aspects of the drive, such as tire pressure, among other factors to make sure it met the Guinness criteria. Eventually, with only 7% of battery charge remaining, and over 55 miles left to reach their target, things started appearing somewhat gloomy. Regardless, they carried on, driving as efficiently as humanly possible, and ultimately surpassed their target after 24 grueling hours, clocking 569 miles on a single charge.

Admittedly, it should be pointed out that this record-breaking journey was hardly representative of normal driving situations. The group recognized straight away that nearly doubling the electric range was not a reality for everyone. They added:

"I think what Kev and I and we team are trying to achieve is to demonstrate the art of the possible that doesn't mean that everyone's going to be driving like we are, they're not going to be able to do 568 miles on a charge but it does at least prove what the art of the possible is and the distances that can be done on EV."

Nevertheless, the team's achievement is truly remarkable and is more than an adequate reply to all the cherry-picked negations presented by EV naysayers. With electric range exceeding expectations every year, range anxiety will soon go the way of horse-driven carts.
