Deal | Asus Vivobook S 15 OLED laptop with 120 Hz display and Snapdragon X Elite drops to less than $1,000
The Asus Vivobook S 15 was the first Windows laptop with the Snapdragon X Elite ARM SoC. While not perfect, the 15.6-inch machine gave quite a good representation of the Snapdragon X Elite's abilities. For instance, we noted in our review that the Asus Vivobook S 15 doesn’t lose any performance when running on battery power and remains nimble during day-to-day tasks.
However, the laptop’s launch price of $1,270 was a bit too high considering the compromises that users would have to make compared to the much-cheaper AMD Hawk Point SKU, a sentiment that we expressed in our review. Thankfully, the Asus Vivobook S 15 is now available for only $969.99 from Antonline at eBay. Unsurprisingly, this $131 discount has made the Asus Vivobook S 15 a pretty good value.
So, who is the Asus Vivobook S 15 for?
The Asus Vivobook S 15 seems like a good option for folks on the hunt for a solid multimedia machine.
For starters, the Asus Vivobook S 15’s 15.6-inch OLED display covers almost all the bases. It has a sharp 3K resolution, enjoys 100% DCI-P3 coverage, more than 370 nits of average brightness in SDR (600 nits in HDR mode), and an extremely high contrast ratio. Additionally, the panel also refreshes at a smooth 120 Hz.
Moving on to performance, our testing revealed that, although the Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-78), doesn’t bring anything new to the table, the overall system performance of the Asus Vivobook S 15 was snappy. So, if you’re going to use the laptop as a productivity machine for routine tasks, you likely won’t be left wanting for more performance.
However, it is important to remember that app compatibility for ARM processors on Windows, while miles better than before, still needs work. While most apps should work fine, some don’t play nice with the Snapdragon X Elite. If that's an issue for you, the Vivobook S 15 also comes with Intel Meteor Lake chips.
Finally, the Asus Vivobook S 15 boasts long battery life courtesy of a 70 Wh cell and the efficiency of the Snapdragon X Elite. Our test unit put forth an impressive result of 13 hours in the Wi-Fi Websurfing test.
All in all, the Asus Vivobook S 15 nails the basics and, at the latest discounted price, is a solid multimedia device worthy of your attention.
