So far this year Anbernic has tended to release a new gaming handheld monthly. Given that the company has only just introduced a new version of the K101 Plus, we suspected it was done until early September. However, it has now started teasing a new gaming handheld that expands upon the existing RG40XX H (curr. $94.99 on Amazon).
Specifically, Anbernic has decided to create a vertical version of theRG40XX H, which it will soon sell as the RG40XX V. Like theRG40XX Hbefore it, the RG40XX V will feature a 4-inch IPS display that outputs at 640 x 480 pixels and a chipset that is said to be powerful enough to emulate up to Dreamcast, Nintendo 64 (N64) and PlayStation 1 (PS1) titles. Although Anbernic has not named the chipset powering the device yet, we imagine it will bring across the Allwinner H700 that underpins many of its modern retro gaming handhelds.
To that end, the RG40XX V will maintain the 3,200 mAh battery found in theRG40XX H. Conversely, Anbernic has dropped one joystick from its vertical release, which leaves the RG40XX V resembling the recent AYANEO Pocket DMG. As usual, a pair of shoulder buttons can be seen, as can a MicroSD card reader for running ROM files. While Anbernichas not revealed a release date yet, we imagine that this will occur later this month.
