Ethereum Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin Says Wallet Security Concerns Set to Be a Thing of the Past
Amid these efforts, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has suggested that the industry is on the brink of tackling what he believes to be its biggest UX challenge.
Despite the promise it holds, crypto adoption faces a significant hurdle: complexity. Aware of this problem, developers are working tirelessly to abstract as much of blockchain’s complexity as possible.
Amid these efforts, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has suggested that the industry is on the brink of tackling what he believes to be its biggest UX challenge.
Wallet Security Concerns Set To Be a Thing of the Past?
“It feels like the different pieces of social recovery are coming together!” Vitalik enthused in an X post on Thursday, August 8.

Social recovery refers to a feature that would allow crypto wallet users to recover access to their wallet through a trusted group of individuals instead of relying on wallet seed phrases, which have often proven to be difficult to remember, store, and easy to misplace, leading to several users losing access to their funds—a problem Vitalik stressed in response to a comment from a user suggesting they did not care.
“Yeah you do. Losing 100% of your money to a wallet screw up is more expensive than any gas fee, and more of a loss than any defi yield can make up for. Wallet security is probably the #1 crypto UX issue,” the Ethereum co-founder retorted.

Vitalik’s comments came as Soul Wallet core contributor Zeng Jiajun announced that the wallet was set to launch on Optimism, leveraging ZK Email for social recovery.

ZK Email is a technology initially designed to allow users to prove that an email came from a specific sender without revealing the content. However, it is now also being leveraged in account recovery services.
Responding to ZK Email’s recent integration with Soul Wallet, Vitalik applauded the project for taking “major steps toward real-world adoption.”
Wallet security is the second major UX challenge the Ethereum co-founder has suggested will soon be a thing of the past in nearly as many days.
Ethereum Interoperability Problems Soon to Be a Thing of the Past?
At the start of the week, Buterin had asserted that Ethereum’s Layer 2 and sidechain interoperability concerns would soon be nonexistent, citing multiple Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) that would help bring the vision to fruition, including ERC-7683, a cross-chain trade execution standard proposed by Uniswap Labs and Across Protocol.
Cross-L2 roadmap in one tweet:* 3770 (cross-L2 addrs)* 7683 (cross-L2 sends via liquidity providers)* 3668 (L2 light clients)* Cross-L2-replayable account state updatesThe above is enough already. Later, phase 2:* L1sload/staticcall* Keystore rollups* Proof aggregation
Better interoperability is tipped to allow for a smoother UX as users could hop seamlessly across applications on different blockchains and explore sophisticated trading strategies across blockchains.

Why This Matters
Making it easier for users to secure and recover their wallets can be a big boon to crypto adoption. Per Vitalik’s statements, this future is coming soon.
