Amanda Owen has hit back at claims her relationship with the Greens is 'contrived' for the programme.
Robert explained how his relationship with the Greens has been a talking point since the show began, with some viewers questioning whether it was genuine or put on for the cameras.
However, the vet insisted that nothing could be further from the truth, having known the family for almost 40 years.
"I think some people struggle to understand and think my relationship with the Greens that you see on the television, is something that was contrived for the programme but nothing could be further from the truth,” he began.
"I've always had a great relationship with my clients and it makes the day go by if we can inject humour into our days and a bit of banter and that's absolutely great.
"So I came back to Thirsk in 1982 and of course, they've been clients ever since then.
"So whenever I go there, we have a little bit of fun, Mrs Green would always put loads of sweets into my pockets that I'd have to take home with me and various pork pies and pasties and things.
"This wasn't something that was just done for the programme. This is something we've done all my career and it's a wonder I haven't got a 46 inch waist with all the stuff Mrs Green gives me!"
He continued to explain how they hadn't "really changed" over the years, keeping true to their simple way of life that many are "a little bit envious of".
