Lenovo is planning to unveil a new Chromebook Duet with a MediaTek chip

Lenovo is one of the biggest names in the Chromebook space, and among its many offerings is the Chromebook Duet line which is made up of 2-in-1 Chromebooks with a detachable keyboard. It has been more than two years since Lenovo announced a new model, but new information abouta successor has surfaced, revealing a key info.

According to a report by Chrome Unboxed, a new model that will launch as the Lenovo Chromebook Duet is on the way. Apparently, Lenovo is returning to the original name it used for the first model.Evidence of the name was confirmed from cros.tech and Chromium Dash, two sites that are known to get information directly from Google's ChromeOS update servers.

However, the return to the original name is not the only key change. Lenovo will also ship the new 2-in-1 Chromebook codenamed 'Ciri' with a MediaTek chipset, like the first generation model released in 2020. The processor is the MediaTek Kompanio 838 (known internally as the MT8188G), and it will replace the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 inside the Chromebook Duet 3 and Chromebook Duet 5. The chipset has a dedicated AI processor called the NPU 650, so we can expect the new Chromebook to boast AI features like several computers released lately.

The upcoming Lenovo Chromebook Duet will have an 11-inch screen like the Chromebook Duet 3. While not stated, it should have support for a USI stylus and come with a detachable keyboard. It will also be available in regular and educational models, with the latter likely featuring a rugged body. There's no news yet of a larger model that will succeed the 13.3-inch Chromebook Duet 5, but that may arrive in the future.

The Lenovo Chromebook Duet doesn't have a launch date yet, but with IFA Berlin coming in September, that would be a great time to unveil the new device.
