Two Bitcoin Whales That Slept for a Decade Just Woke Up and Moved Million Worth of BTC

Two Bitcoin whales have awakened from a long slumber, shifting a total of $11 million in BTC after holding onto the top crypto asset for more than a decade.

Crypto tracker Whale Alert reports that the first address moved 174 BTC, valued at $10.16 million, to another unidentified wallet early on Friday.

The whale had not interacted with the Bitcoin since receiving it in January 2014, when the same holdings were valued at $142,600. Over 10 years, the value of the whale’s holdings increased by more than 7,000%.

Throughout the last ten years, the long-dormant address has received very small amounts of Bitcoin on a few occasions, although these transactions seem to be the consequence of dusting assaults.

Dusting attacks occur when hackers or scammers send tiny amounts of a cryptocurrency (dust) to a large number of personal wallets in an effort to compromise the privacy of the wallet holders.

The fraudsters then try to identify the people or businesses connected to the target wallets by following their transactional activity.

According to Whale Alert, a separate address also transferred 18.67 BTC, valued at $1.09 million, to Coinbase on Friday. Since receiving the Bitcoin in April 2014, when the same amount was valued at $9,204, the wallet has had no transactions.

At the time of writing, BTC is trading at $59,244, up more than 3% over the last 24 hours.
