Older flagship Garmin smartwatch gains improvements with new update
The Forerunner 955 (curr. $448 on Amazon) continues to receive new updates at a steady pace, having been offered Beta Versions v20.15 and v20.21 in the last few weeks. Now, Garmin has issued v20.23, which continues with a recent trend of being exclusive to the company's Beta Program.
Also, Garmin is rolling out the update 'phased rollout', as is often the case with new beta builds. For reference, the associated forum post states that Beta Version 20.23 should have now reached about 50% of Forerunner 955 smartwatches enrolled on the Garmin Beta Program. If that is not the case, then you manually download Beta Version 20.23 by navigating through the following on-device menus:
Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates
According to Garmin, Beta Version 20.23 ships with nearly two dozen bug fixes, new features and improvements. However, the changelog contains many lines that existed in Beta Version 20.21, as well as a few that Garmin has re-worded between beta builds. Officially, Beta Version 20.23 builds on previous updates in at least 18 areas:
- Adds Garmin Share, share your workouts, courses, and waypoints between compatible Garmin devices.
- Added Device Settings Backup and Restore.
- Improvements to support pool swim workouts with pace alerts and critical swim speed.
- Improvements to the pool swim rest screen and alert tones.
- Improvements to race time predictions based on fitness level and recent efforts.
- Integrates the Garmin Run Coach feature into Garmin Connect app.
- Fixed lock screen vibration during sleep mode.
- Fixed map data field text truncation.
- Fixed edge case weather data display errors.
- Fixed calendar display issues.
- Fixed pool size selection in Garmin Connect real time settings.
- Fixed alert suppression during breathwork activity.
- Fixed various language translation errors.
- Fixed various bugs and UI improvements.
- Fixed crash that could occur during activities.
