'Let The Mask Remain Famous'

Shiba Inu (SHIB) is celebrating four years since its launch. The meme coin, currently ranked among the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, was created as an experiment in decentralized community building.

Four years ago, Shiba Inu (SHIB) was launched into the cryptocurrency world by an anonymous person or group of people using the pseudonym "Ryoshi." The creation of SHIB was part of a larger experiment in decentralized community building, and the meme coin has since seen immense popularity, becoming one of the most trending cryptocurrencies and ranking among the top 20 biggest with a market capitalization of over $8 billion.

Over the years, "Ryoshi" has gradually stepped back from the project, passing the leadership to another anonymous developer known by the nickname Shytoshi Kusama. Earlier this week, Kusama participated in an interview, where they discussed various aspects of SHIB's development and their decision to remain anonymous.

During the interview, Kusama, who appeared with a mask covering their face and their voice modulated, expressed their belief that the power of SHIB lies within its devoted community rather than just a few individuals. In light of this, they stated that they have no aspiration to reveal their face, emphasizing the importance of the community's role in SHIB's success.

“There’s no need for my face to become a public figure. Let the mask remain famous. The power of SHIB is not because of me or because of Kaal, it is because of the community. And that is what is most important: the technology to take Web 2 to Web 3 and the brand of a very special dog breed that has gone viral many times as a meme.”

Another enigmatic leader behind SHIB, Kaal Dhairya, also participated in the interview. They highlighted the value of anonymity in enabling them to blend seamlessly within the community and receive their "true, honest feedback."

Shiba Inu Developers to Relinquish Control to Community

The developers also announced their decision to hand over control of SHIB to the community at the end of 2024, stepping away from the project.

According to Kusama, the move is part of their vision for true decentralization in the cryptocurrency space. They emphasized that the development is not about abandoning the project but rather "empowering the community even more than they already have."

While Shiba Inu is decentralized in its governance and ecosystem, the degree of decentralization can vary depending on how actively the community participates in development processes. If a large portion of the SHIB Army (a term used to collectively describe all Shiba Inu investors, proponents, and traders) is passive, decision-making could become concentrated among a smaller group of engaging participants.
