The 2020 Firefighter coin with a 'bullseye error' is a highly sought-after collectable minted to pay tribute to those who fought the 2019 Black Summer bushfires.
The error occurs when the flame that is meant to sit between the firefighters ends up printed on the other side of the coin across the face of Queen Elizabeth II.
The rare minting error has made the colourful coin extremely valuable with an uncirculated version of the collectable recently sold for $5,950.
Firefighter coins already in circulation are still worth a few thousand dollars.
Coin expert Matthew Thompson said the $2 coins were even more rare because nobody knows how many were minted and are still in circulation.
'No one knows for sure which is sort of why they're so popular and collectable because the amount out there that's available would be really small. But no one knows a definitive production run on them,' he told Yahoo Finance.
'If this guy has got it from the servo, it sounds like it's probably been in a till, it may have been knocked around a bit and all those things contribute to a value.'
