IT House News on July 24, technology media Android Authority published a blog post yesterday (July 23) stating that the new Samsung Galaxy series mobile phones and tablets pre-installed with the One UI 6.1.1 system will prevent users from sideloading unauthorized apps by default. Source application.
Introduction to permissionsIT House briefly introduces the relevant information about Android permissions as follows:
1. INSTALL_PACKAGES
Technically speaking, Android has blocked sideloading behavior by default at the operating system level. INSTALL_PACKAGES permission (silent installation of new apps without prompting the user) is only granted to app stores preinstalled on the phone (such as the Play Store, or the manufacturer's app store), and is automatically granted to the requesting app.
REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGESMost third-party app stores use the REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES permission, and user authorization must be explicitly obtained when installing applications. Android will prompt the user every time an app with this permission attempts to install a new app.
Auto Blocker function
Samsung launched the Auto Blocker function in One UI 6.0, which can prevent the installation of unauthorized applications even if the application has obtained the REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES permission.
After enabling Auto Blocker, users can only install and update apps through the Google Play App Store and Samsung Galaxy App Store.
In the One UI 6.0 system, Auto Blocker is an optional feature and is not enabled by default. Users can manually open the Settings app and enable "Auto Blocker" in "Security and Privacy."
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 come pre-installed with the One UI 6.1.1 update, with Auto Blocker enabled by default. However, users can turn off this option and continue sideloading apps.
