Samsung has officially announced the launch of its innovative Odyssey 3D gaming monitor, which offers a unique glasses-free 3D viewing experience. The monitor will be showcased at the Gamescom 2024 event in Cologne, Germany.
The Odyssey 3D utilizes Samsung's Light Field Display (LFD) technology to create a stereoscopic 3D effect without the need for special glasses. This is achieved through a combination of a lenticular lens on the display panel, eye-tracking cameras, and view mapping software that adjusts the image for optimal depth perception.
According to Samsung, the Odyssey 3D can seamlessly switch between 2D and 3D modes, allowing users to enjoy both traditional and immersive 3D content. The monitor will be available in 27-inch and 37-inch sizes, both featuring a 4K resolution, 1ms response time, 165Hz refresh rate, and support for AMD FreeSync Premium.
"We are thrilled to present our glasses-free 3D gaming monitor at Gamescom, the world's largest gaming exhibition," said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Enterprise Business Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "Samsung remains committed to leading the premium gaming monitor market by continuously developing cutting-edge technologies that enhance the gaming experience."
In addition to the Odyssey 3D, Samsung will showcase its entire Odyssey lineup of high-end gaming monitors, including the Odyssey OLED G8 with UHD resolution and 240Hz refresh rate, and the Odyssey OLED G6 with QHD resolution and 360Hz refresh rate.
Gamescom 2024, scheduled from August 21 to 25, is the world's largest gaming exhibition, featuring over 1,400 exhibitors from the hardware, software, and game content industries. Samsung's booth at the event will span 800 square meters, making it the company's largest and most immersive presence at the show.
