Jermaine Jenas' 'securing the coin' video goes viral amid BBC sacking news

Former footballer and presenter Jermaine Jenas has hit out at the BBC following his sacking by the corporation.

It was announced on Thursday that Jermaine, 41 - known for presenting the likes of the One Show and Match of the Day - had been 'sacked' by the BBC following allegations of "inappropriate behaviour".

The former footballer's departure has been attributed to "workplace conduct," with it reported that digital communications, such as texts, were raised with the corporation a few weeks ago.

Jermaine has said that there are "two sides to every story" and that he's letting his lawyers "deal with it".

But now, the presenter has broken his silence on the matter and hit out at the BBC.

Jermaine was presenting a radio show on talkSPORT around the time that the news of his departure from the BBC was announced.

He said on the show: "Look, I can't really talk about it. I, as you can probably see, I am not happy about it.

"But currently, as it stands, I'm going to have to let the lawyers deal with it. You know, there's two sides to every story, as we know.

"So that's all I can say right now."

It has been claimed that after one woman complained about unsolicited messages, other employees also came forward.

A source told the Sun: "The first complaint was raised after Jermaine flirtily messaged a female member of staff on the One Show, and she raised her misgivings in a formal capacity."

The source continued: "The BBC knows it cannot now ignore concerns or complaints so after immediate routine enquiries the decision was taken to take him off air, and terminate his contract.

"They acted swiftly and decisively."

They added that "Jermaine's conduct is absolutely nothing" like former BBC News presenter Huw Edwards and that there's "no suggestion of illegality".

In a statement to the Mirror, a BBC spokesperson said: "We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting lineup."

Staff at the BBC are said to have been left in shock over the news, with it previously reported that director of sport Alex Kay-Jelski emailed staff at 3.39pm on Thursday saying: "I wanted to let you know that Jermaine Jenas is no longer working for the BBC."

A source said: "It was brutally short and to the point. It felt like there was no messing around."

A source told the Mirror: "The staff WhatsApps were suddenly abuzz with what was going on.

"There have been whispers that something was afoot but bosses had kept the investigation close to their chest.

"It's a very sensitive landscape at the BBC at the moment with the various scandals that have beset it of late. Any hint of workplace misconduct and they needed to come down on like a ton of bricks."
