As announced by Ripple in April, the company is entering the booming stablecoin market with its U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin. Stablecoins, a critical piece of crypto infrastructure, are already worth over $160 billion, enabling efficient trading and payments on blockchains. Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC are the two dominant stablecoins in the vast majority of the market.

Ripple began testing its stablecoin on the Ethereum mainnet and XRP Ledger in early August.

Currently in its beta stage, Ripple's stablecoin, Ripple USD, is being tested by Ripple's enterprise partners. This phase is crucial for ensuring that the stablecoin achieves the highest levels of security, efficiency, and reliability before it is widely available and receives regulatory approval.

According to Ripple, this marks a significant milestone that will bring more high-quality assets to the XRP Ledger, unlocking new opportunities, liquidity, and institutional use cases for users, developers, and applications.

RLUSD will be pegged to the U.S. dollar (USD) and fully backed by U.S. dollar deposits, short-term U.S. government treasuries, and other cash equivalents. A third-party accounting firm will audit the reserve assets, and Ripple will publish attestations monthly.

While Ripple USD (RLUSD) is in private beta on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum mainnet, Ripple has noted that it has not yet been approved by regulators and is therefore not available for purchase or trading. Users should be cautious of any scammers claiming to have or be able to distribute Ripple USD.
