Hyundai Ioniq 5 N grabs Car and Driver's 2024 EV of the Year award

Yesterday, Car and Driver published an article regarding the testing that concluded by awarding the "EV of the Year 2024" to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. In addition to it, the other 17 vehicles that fought for the title were the following: Acura ZDX, Audi Q8 e-tron, BMW i5 eDrive 40, BMW i5 M60i, Chevrolet Blazer EV, Chevrolet Equinox EV AWD, Chevrolet Equinox EV FWD, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Fiat 500e, Fisker Ocean, Honda Prologue, Hyundai Kona EV, Kia EV9, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Polestar 2, Tesla Cybertruck, and the Volkswagen ID.4.

In the aforementioned article, Car and Driver's executive editor K. C. Colwell wrote that Hyundai's new winner, which comes as the brand's third EV to get the award in a row, after the Ioniq 5 (2022) and Ioniq 6 (2023), provides "a genuine enthusiast experience with an electric vehicle that can hit you in the feels like a 1980s G-body Porsche 911 Club Sport."

To win the award, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N had to get the highest score across the following four areas: value, fun-to-drive factor, mission fulfillment, and advancement of technology. The highlights of Car and Driver's testing of the Ioniq 5 N include 3 seconds for the 0-60 mph sprint, 6.9 seconds for the 0-100 mph sprint, 11.1 seconds for the quarter mile with 123 mph at the end, a range of 190 miles on the highway at 75 mph, as well as 35 minutes required for going from 10% to 90% autonomy when fast charging at an average rate of 129 kW. The maximum range achieved during the testing was 221 miles.
