The Russian embassy stated that it had taken “immediate measures” to clarify the situation, despite the fact that he carried French and UAE passports.
According to the media sources, Durov's arrest was closely related to “suspicious” activities carried out by the messaging application that he operates. Terrorism, narcotics, complicity, fraud, and money laundering are some of the offenses that he may face.
