One UI 6.1 update brings Android 14 to the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite

When the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite was released in 2021, it shipped with Android 11 out of the box. Now, a new update that brings One UI 6.1 and is based on Android 14 has begun rolling out to the device, making it the third major OS upgrade and likely the final one for the budget tablet.

The update has begun rolling out in South Korea with firmware version T225NKOU8EXH2, and along with the new Android version and One UI 6.1 features, it also comes with July 2024's security patch.

One UI 6.1 brings features such as wallpaper editing, ability to customize alarms and the calendar app with wallpapers, emojis, images, videos, and stickers. It also brings the ability to categorize photos and videos in the gallery app by albums, faces, and places, etc. Owners will also be able to sync tab groups from the Samsung Internet browser app with their Galaxy smartphones.

Another important feature is Battery Protection, a feature that allows you to choose from three different battery protection options. Basic protection will ensure the battery doesn't drop below 95% when plugged in; Adaptive protection will limit charging to 80% but slowly charge it to 100% once it's close to the time you wake; while Maximum protection will keep the battery charged to 80% but no higher than that.

There is no info on when the update will begin to roll out in other regions, but it should not be too far off. This is most likely the last OS upgrade for the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, but if you want a newer inexpensive tablet, then the Galaxy Tab A9 (currently $145 on Amazon) is a good choice.
