Debian-based OSMC 2024.08-1 brings Kodi 21.1 to Raspberry Pi, Apple TV, and Vero
Raspbmc's successor, OSMC (abbreviation of"Open Source Media Center" for those who were wondering), is a project led by Sam Nazarko, who is also the mastermind behind Crystalbuntu and LinXBMC. Now, this Debian- and Kodi-based piece of code returns with a new update. Labeled 2024.08-1, the new release includes Kodi 21.1 and comes with both bug fixes and improvements.
The two main issues that this update irons out involve backing up user data via My OSMC to an SMB share and the playback of some VC-1 content on Vero 4K / 4K + and V. Speaking of Vero, all the devices that were supported by OSMC with Kodi 20 continue to be supported in the new version.
The list of improvements includes translations, the WiFi driver for Vero V, Vero 4K/4K+ and Vero V 2560x1440p60 video mode support, OSMC remote keymap messages, full range video output on the Vero V, OSMC skin support for Kodi 2 and the new view type selection dialog, and more.
To update the environment, those who are already using OSMC should go to My OSMC -> Updater and check for updates manually. Those using automatic updates should receive the notification one of these days, if they haven't already.
Debian fans looking for a Linux-themed piece of clothing can snatch a Debian Spiral Logo t-shirt off Amazon for $15.99. This t-shirt is available in multiple fit types, sizes, and colors.
