Mysterious Google Essentials app coming to PCs

While Google services have been a part of Android for a very long time, individual apps are also available for Windows. Now it seems like the time has come for Google Essentials to hit Microsoft's operating system. However, everything will start with HP and its brands, with more expected to follow. This new app will probably be considered bloatware by some users, but others will surely appreciate the ability to easily switch between phone and laptop without having to waste time installing separate apps.

While unveiling that it will first arrive on HP consumer and gaming brands, including Spectre, Envy, Omen, and Victus, with all OmniBook brands to follow next, Google only mentioned that Google Essentials is "a new app that makes it easier for you to discover and install many of our best Google services — including Google Play Games — when setting up a new PC." However, they also mentioned Google Photos and Google Messages, and the image that accompanies the blog post about this topic also suggests that Google Docs is a part of this software package as well.

Although Google Essentials is described as a standalone Windows app, the fact that it comes with an entire set of Google services might be a problem. Since the so-called app will be preinstalled on HP hardware (for now), this means that all Google services will be started by default. However, this is something that Google did not mention in the announcement, and the truth might be different in the end. A Google One two-month trial is also included with Google Essentials, and this might lead to unwanted fees when the user forgets to cancel the paid subscription, which starts automatically at the end of the test period mentioned above.

One of the machines that will be targeted by Google Essentials is the 17.3-inch HP Omen with Intel Core i9-13900HX and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080, as well as 64 GB DDR 5 and a 4 TB SSD, which currently goes for no less than $3,189.99 on Amazon.
