Xiaomi has now fully unveiled the Redmi Watch 5 Active, the first member of the Redmi Watch 5 series. Please note that while Xiaomi has not confirmed whether other Redmi Watch 5-branded smartwatches will ever be released, we imagine that this is more a case of when, not if. Also, although the Redmi Watch 5 Active is only available in India for the time being, Xiaomi tends to launch its Redmi wearables globally like the Redmi Watch 3 Active (curr. $49.99 on Amazon).
At any rate, the Redmi Watch 5 Active features a 2-inch LCD that outputs at up to 500 nits with a 385 x 320-pixel native resolution. Unfortunately, the display lacks any always-on (AOD) functionality to speak of. Nonetheless, it boasts over 200 pre-installed watch faces, as well as more than 140 exercise modes.
Moreover, the Redmi Watch 5 Active is said to last up to 12 days of heavy use or 18 days in more normal use; Xiaomi has not defined parameters for either of these scenarios, though. Furthermore, the smartwatch supports Android and iOS. With that being said, the inclusion of HyperOS should mean that the Redmi Watch 5 Active synchronises most seamlessly with recent Xiaomi smartphones.
The Redmi Watch 5 Active will be available on September 3 in Midnight Black and Matte Silver options. For reference, the smartwatch will retail for INR 2,799 (~$33) in India. Please seeXiaomi's websitefor further details.
