Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8K spotted in new retailer leak
The Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8K has appeared at another retailer. The second-generation device was first spotted at Klikitalia in July and has since been found at Coolshop. There are several differences between this new model and its predecessor, which allow you to sync your smart lights with whatever is on the TV.
As its name suggests, the Play HDMI Sync Box 8K supports 8K@60Hz or 4K@120Hz, making it somewhat futureproof. The HDMI 2.0 port has been replaced with HDMI 2.1, and there is support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, as before. You can connect up to four devices, such as game consoles, via HDMI, link up to 10 lights, and you must also connect a Hue Bridge to unlock all features. You can adjust the brightness, colors and effects in the Philips Hue app, with further controls offered via integrations with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home.
The Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box 8K is rumored to launch this September, though the company has not officially confirmed this. Plus, how much it will cost remains to be seen; as a guide, the original Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box retails for $249.99/£229.99/€269.99.
