Intel Arc 140V Xe2 iGPU of Lunar Lake surpasses AMD Radeon 780M in OpenCL tests

Intel will fully unveil the Lunar Lake processors on September 3, and the new line of processors is expected to bring many improvements over the Meteor Lake series. Among the upgrades is the new Xe2-LPG integrated graphics.

There will be two configurations for the Intel Core Ultra 200V series. The higher-end option is the Arc 140V, which will have 8 Xe2 cores. This Lunar Lake iGPU has just passed the OpenCL tests on CompuBench, and it scores higher than the AMD Radeon 780M and is close to the GTX 1650. Worth noting that the CompuBench benchmark doesn't specify which Intel Core Ultra 7 CPU was tested, but it does show that the Arc 140V iGPU is clocked at 2,000 MHz. This could mean that the processor is either the Core Ultra 7 266V or the Core Ultra 7 268V.

Another thing to note about these benchmark scores is that they are from OpenCLtests, which isn't something that you can use to gauge the gaming performance of the iGPU. However, these tests shed light on the raw performance that is relevant to processing videos.

If the performance remains the same in games, the Radeon 780M will finally have a proper Intel competitor. This would also mean that the MSI Claw 8 AI+, if it comes with a CPU featuring the Arc 140V, could have a good shot at competing with other gaming handhelds in the market (Lenovo Legion Go curr. $582.03 on Amazon).
