Unsurprisingly, big-budget AAA games such as Resident Evil Village, Assassin's Creed Mirage and others didn't sell very well on iOS. Capcom has now made the experience more frustrating for the dozen-odd people who bought their games on the platform.
A Reddit user (H/T Eurogamer) spotted a jarring change in an upcoming update for Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, Resident Evil Village and the Resident Evil 4 remake. An internet connection is now required to play all games due to "changes to the startup process". Unfortunately, the changelog is worded vaguely and doesn't specify if you need to be online only during start up or the whole time you're playing the game.
It has understandably caused some backlash with people demanding refunds from Apple. All three gamers are, by nature, single-player with little-to-no requirement for an internet connection. DRM checks seem unlikely as iOS and the App Store do a pretty good job of keeping pirates out, so the only possibility is telemetry/data collection.
