New Galaxy S25 leak hints at Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 exclusivity
The 2025-bound Samsung Galaxy S25 trio will, like the Galaxy S23 series, exclusively run Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The information comes from South Korean media outlet Hankyung and also a forum post on Blind, a Reddit-like forum for the "Professional Community".
Unfortunately, the report doesn't delve into Samsung's reasons for skipping the Exynos 2500, but it does reconfirm industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's speculation from earlier this year. Apparently, Samsung still plans to use its 3 nm AP in next year's Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Given it was mentioned in the company's recent financial report, it is clear Samsung hasn't given up on it yet.
While many will be relieved at the prospect of Samsung going the all-Qualcomm route again, one can't help but wonder where the Exynos 2500 floundered. The chip taped out not too long ago, but it may have been postponed due to sub-par yields on Samsung's 3GAP process, which, despite Samsung's best efforts, might have not improved.
Previous leaks, some dating back over a year, hyped the Exynos 2500 up to be Samsung's big comeback into the mobile AP market. Internally, it was codenamed "Dream Chip" and it was apparently redesigned from the ground up after the Exynos 990 and Exynos 2200's dismal showing.
