Huion unveils 13.3-inch Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) pen tablet for graphic designers, photographers, and 3D artists

Huion has unveiled the 13.3-inch Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) pen tablet for graphic designers, photographers, and 3D artists. The tablet can also be used as a secondary display.

The latest Huion comes with a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel, 60 Hz IPS LCD display with a response time of 25 ms. The display has a brightness of 220 nits, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and a color gamut covering 99% of sRGB, 99% of Rec.709, and 90% of AdobeRGB color spaces. Every Kamvas is individually color calibrated at the factory and ships with a color error ΔE<1.5 for high accuracy.

The screen is fully laminated to minimize pen nib-to-cursor offset and has an anti-sparkle, anti-glare surface to minimize annoying light reflections. The textured surface provides a paper-like feel that is not as slippery as glossy glass.

The Kamvas uses a PW600L pen that does not require a battery to operate because the tablet uses electron magnetic resonance (EMR) technology to track the location of the nib. The pen has three side-mounted buttons for quick mode changes and settings selection, while a silicone grip provides a slip-free hold.

A nib measuring 1.5 mm (0.059 inch) allows the artist to see their work more easily when working on fine details. The nib retraction distance is a short 0.35 mm (0.014 inch), providing a more realistic feel when the pen is pressed hard on the screen. The digitizer can sense the pen nib up to 10 mm (0.39 inch) from the screen.

The PW600L needs merely 2 grams (0.07 ounce) of activation force and has 16,384 pressure levels, giving artists a wide range of pen strokes from very fine to bold. The resolution of the pen digitizer is 5,080 lines per inch (200 lines per mm). The pen utilizes the latest PenTech 4.0 to minimize cursor-to-nib offset when the pen is tilted. Huion's Cursor Auto-Alignment technology reduces the offset to +/-0.2 mm (+/-0.0079 inch) with a pen tilt of 30 degrees. The maximum pen tilt is 60 degrees.

The display is optimized for work near its edges. The Kamvas has a cursor accuracy of +/-1 mm (+/-0.039 inch) within 10 mm (0.39 inch) of the edges, reducing the need to scroll artwork towards the center of the display for fine detail work. Accuracy towards the center is +/-0.3 mm (+/-0.012 inch).

Five buttons and two rotary dials along one short edge of the Kamvas allow artists to quickly change settings, pen types, colors, and more while drawing, enabling faster work. The tablet can be rotated 180-degrees for left-handed or right-handed use of these controls. The buttons have different surface bumps, similar to braille, so artists can quickly find the right one by feel and operate silently without click sounds.

The Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) weighs 1.73 pounds (865 g) and measures 14.22 x 7.98 x 0.46 inches (361.21 x 202.77 x 11.7 mm). The working area of the pen display measures 11.57 x 6.50 inches (293.8 × 165.2 mm). The tablet has a 3-in-1 and a USB-C port to connect to PCs (Windows 7 or higher), Macs (macOS 10.12 or higher), Linux computers (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS), or Android devices (USB-C 3.1 with DisplayPort 1.2 or higher). A 5 volt 2 amp power supply powers the unit. The tablet comes in Cosmos Black or Sakura Pink colors.

The Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) is currently on pre-sale with an MSRP of $249 on Huion(also here on Amazon) with expected availability around September 12, 2024. Readers who can’t wait that long can consider buying a tablet with an even better OLED display (like this one on Amazon) or a PC tablet with built-in pen and touch features (like this one on Amazon).
