IFA 2024 | Acer showcases Project DualPlay gaming laptop with Nintendo Switch-like innovative removable controllers

Acer has announced plenty of devices today, including a few gaming options like the Nitro Blaze gaming handheld and Predator Orion 700 pre-built desktop. Arguably, the most unusual of the bunch is the Project DualPlay though, which Acer describes as a gaming laptop with detachable controllers.

Please note that the Project DualPlay is only a concept for now. Consequently, the device may never actually receive a full release. Added to that, Acer has decided against confirming any real details about the Project DualPlay.

Instead, it claims that the detachable controller is held in place by magnets. Based on the images that Acer has shared, it seems that doing so also removes the Project DualPlay's trackpad, although some sort of digital alternative may be exposed in the process. On top of that, the laptop has per-key RGB backlighting and a pair of 5 W speakers that can be extended from its sides for improved audio clarity.

Moreover, the controllers are said to have been designed to be used as one or individually, just like Nintendo's Joy-Cons (curr. $73 on Amazon). Theoretically, this would make the Project DualPlay ideal for local multiplayer gaming sessions. With that being said, it is unclear whether Acer will even showcase the Project DualPlay in person this week at IFA 2024 in Berlin.
