The Amazfit T-Rex series is targeted at adventurers with its military-grade durability and rugged design. So far, Amazfit has announced four models - the T-Rex, T-Rex Pro, T-Rex 2, andT-Rex Ultra - and has now added a fifth that will be sold as the Amazfit T-Rex 3.
Amazfit has given the T-Rex 3 a new design that sets it apart from its predecessors. While it still has a round display, the stainless steel bezel is now an octagon instead of a circle. It still retains the industrial look, textured buttons, and red markings at the 12 and 6 hour marks.
Among the upgrades the Amazfit T-Rex 3 brings is a larger 1.5-inch 480 x 480 AMOLED display, up from the 1.39-inch display of the T-Rex Ultra. The display is not only bigger but 100% brighter (2000 nits) than the previous generation. It also has Gorilla Glass protection and a glove mode. The T-Rex 3 uses 22mm non-quick release watch straps and fits people with a wrist circumference of 145mm - 210mm. While the size of the straps have not changed, the material is now liquid silicone which is skin-friendly and has anti-bacterial properties.
In addition to all-day heart rate measurement (HRV, resting heart rate), blood oxygen level saturation, stress level, breathing rate, and sleep tracking, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 also brings support for skin temperature measurement.
The T-Rex 3 ships with Zepp OS 4 which has AI features integrated such as an AI assistant that's based on Open AI's GPT-4o. There's also a native app for controlling Sonos sound systems. The watch comes with a new ZPS3044 processor, 64MB of RAM (double that of the T-Rex Ultra) and a whopping 32GB of on-board storage for offline playlists, maps, and apps. For context, the T-Rex Ultra (curr. available on Amazon for $349.99) launched with a measly 4GB of storage.
Amazfit's new smartwatch supports up to 170 sports modes. It also has a 10 ATM rating and can be used for free diving up to a depth of 45 meters. The T-Rex 3 boasts a circularly-polarized antenna, dual-band positioning, and a six-satellite positioning system. The China and European variants also have NFC.
4Thanks to the bigger display, the watch also gets a bigger battery. The 700mAh battery (200mAh more than that of its predecessors) will provide up to 13 days of heavy usage mode, 27 days of typical usage, and 40 days in battery saver mode. Using it as just a basic watch will see the battery last up to 81 days.
With GPS turned on, the battery will last 42 hours in accuracy mode, 114 hours in battery saver mode, and up to 180 hours in extreme battery saver mode. Amazfit is also providing users with more control over their data by allowing them choose if they want their GPS permanently or temporarily backed up to the cloud,. There's also the option to prevent GPS data backup or even totally disabling GPS permissions. Sadly, while the watch has a bigger battery, it now takes a longer time to get a full charge (3 hours).
The Amazfit T-Rex Ultra costs €299 in Europe, $299 in the US, and¥1899 in China, making it cheaper than the Amazfit T-Rex Ultra. It is available starting today in Onyx and Lava. Amazfit will also sell upcycled straps in the aforementioned colors.
