Dressed in black and gold and punctuated with a stellar ancient Roman gold-coin necklace of black onyx beads—she promised her publicist would send me the designer's name ASAP (“The Times wants to know too!” she says)—Baranski was lapping up the La Dolce Vita atmosphere of the night.
Christine Baranski, who is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series for HBO’s The Gilded Age, attended Bloomingdale’s “From Italy, With Love” event at Academy Mansion on Monday evening.
Baranski, who is also one of the hosts for the Italian event at Bloomingdale's, visited the sixth-floor bedding department during her shopping trip. She purchased Italian cotton sheets and chatted with the staff about the Italian takeover at the store.
Baranski was adorned in a black and gold ensemble, complete with a striking ancient Roman gold-coin necklace strung with black onyx beads. She promised that her publicist would share the designer's name with The Times as soon as possible, adding, “The Times wants to know too!”
Baranski soaked up the La Dolce Vita atmosphere of the evening in a corner of the venue.
Meanwhile, Isabella Rossellini entertained party pals with animated storytelling in another corner of the event space.
Artsy blocks that resembled contemporary sculptures were revealed to be skewers of mozzarella, tomatoes, and green olives, arranged by Laila Gohar of LG Studio. Additional bites were provided by Sant Ambroeus.
Opera performances took place in the inner courtyard of Academy Mansion, a four-story structure built in 1920. Soprano Erin Morley and Tenor Jamez McCorckle serenaded the crowd from a balcony overlooking the vine-covered courtyard with Puccini classics in honor of the 100th anniversary of the composer's death. DJ Stretch Armstrong's tunes played in between the operatic performances.
“But everybody loves Italy. Who doesn't love Italy?,” Baranski remarked.
Guests began arriving at the event at 7:00 p.m. The event was hosted by Bloomingdale’s to celebrate the Italian takeover at their 59th Street store, which is adorned like an emporium of Italia. Among the new brands featured in the store's assortment are La DoubleJ, Fendi, and Etro. Additionally, there is a special collaboration with the Milanese design fair Salone del Mobile in the homeware department.
Bloomingdale’s CEO Olivier Bron and Air Mail’s Graydon Carter co-hosted the evening. It was a “Dolce Vita” meets “Gilded Age” night, considering that Baranski and Morgan Specter, who was just two blocks away from his onscreen digs on East 61st Street, were also co-hosts.
Tiffany Haddish (radiant in a yellow satin number), director Paul Feig, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Nasanin Nuri, Georgia Fowler, JJ Martin, Amy Fine Collins, and Alexandra O’Neill were among the attendees.
The event, which took place on the eve of NYFW (during which Ralph Lauren’s “Ralph Hampton” Americana extravaganza show was on the Upper East Side), allowed guests to extend their summer vacations a bit before returning to reality. I mentioned to Bron that it was an interesting scenario, especially considering that many New Yorkers had probably just returned from Italian getaways. He agreed that it was a unique situation, adding, “Maybe the Airmail reader, yes!”
