Ripple CEO Meets Japanese Lawmaker, Discusses Blockchain Potential

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse met with Japanese lawmaker Taira Masaaki during XRP Community Day to discuss Japan’s potential in blockchain technology.

In a meeting that also included discussions on the potential for blockchain in Japan, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said the country is “committed to advancing crypto” after meeting Taira Masaaki, a member of Japan’s House of Representatives who focuses on Web3 and AI, during XRP Community Day on Friday.

The event saw the participation of key figures from Japan’s political, financial, and business sectors. Garlinghouse praised Japan’s “clear frameworks and constructive policy” that promote innovation and consumer protection.

Taira added, in a post translated from Japanese, that they discussed “how to utilize blockchain to maximize Japan’s potential.”

In a separate development, Garlinghouse held a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, last week where he slammed U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler, noting that the court ruled that XRP is not a security in itself, marking a crucial win for the crypto industry. The Ripple CEO questioned Gensler’s continued leadership and highlighted the bipartisan nature of tech policy in the lead-up to the U.S. election.

Moreover, Ripple announced a partnership with Yonsei University to advance blockchain research.

The executive went on to emphasize the importance of the Asian market, stating:

The majority of all XRP held on exchanges worldwide is in Korea and Japan.

Ripple is ramping up its expansion efforts in Korea and Japan, with Korean institutions reportedly interested in crypto custody. Ripple President Monica Long discussed potential partnerships with banks like Hana and Shinhan, which will depend on regulatory developments.
